Is an assessment or deadline affected?

Initial response
within one business day

The standard initial response is one business day. Most Classter issues are addressed within one to three business days, depending on the cause and complexity. An acknowledgment confirms receipt of your request; it does not confirm that the problem is resolved.

Access University Systems

Information Technology handles university accounts, supported platforms, and technical tickets. The Office of Student Support Services helps students submit requests and obtain follow-up. For assistance, email info@newmeridianuniversity.org with the subject Technical Support and identify the system and action involved.

Use My Meridian, University Email, or Library Resources for the service you need. Follow the account activation and sign-in instructions supplied by NMU. Classter is NMU’s learning management system. Open course tools and meeting links through your course or an official university message so that you reach the correct class and account. Signing in to one university service does not necessarily activate every course tool.

Before your course begins, confirm that you can sign in, open the course, read announcements, view a learning resource, and reach the assignment area. Test your microphone and camera before a virtual meeting. If an activation message is missing, check junk or spam folders and then contact Student Support. Include your name, student ID if assigned, program, and the service you cannot access. Ask for guidance before creating a second account or purchasing a separate software subscription to work around the problem.

  • Use official university links and your assigned account.
  • Test course, email, library, and meeting access before they are needed.
  • Report missing credentials or activation instructions.

Prepare Your Technology

Online study requires reliable access to a suitable device, email, and the software needed for your courses. Review the syllabus for the required application, file format, and license. Most coursework uses Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications; research and other assignments may require additional software. University-provided software access depends on program requirements, so confirm availability before buying a license.

The University Catalog provides the general specifications below. They do not establish that a device can run every course application or video meeting reliably. Ask the help desk to confirm current operating-system and application compatibility before purchasing equipment or relying on a tablet for specialized work.

General Technology Specifications
ItemCatalog guidance
BrowserUse the latest version of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome for university learning platforms.
InternetA minimum connection of 2 Mbps; 5 Mbps broadband is recommended.
CameraAt least 1 megapixel; 2 megapixels or higher is recommended.
DisplayA minimum display of 15 inches at 1024 × 768 resolution.

Save coursework regularly and keep a separate backup you can access if your usual device fails. Install browser and system updates when you have time to restart and test access. Prepare a reasonable alternative for an interruption, such as another connection or device you can use securely. The help desk cannot repair personal equipment or recover lost personal files.

  • Check course software, license, and file requirements.
  • Confirm compatibility before making a purchase.
  • Keep backups and test access after updates.

Checks Before Reporting a Problem

Record the exact error and the time before changing settings. Save open work before refreshing, signing out, or restarting a browser. Check whether your internet connection works on another ordinary website and whether you are using the correct university link and account. For an assignment upload, check the file type and size required in the assignment instructions. Being able to open the course does not establish that an upload was completed.

Outside an active timed assessment, you may close and reopen the browser, sign in again, and try the other supported browser to see whether the issue persists. Avoid repeatedly submitting the same assignment while its status is unclear. Do not disable security software or change unfamiliar system settings to force access.

  1. Save your work and record the error and time.
  2. Check the connection, official link, account, and file requirements.
  3. Retry safely outside a timed assessment and note the result.
  4. Report a persistent problem with the steps already attempted.

Submit a Support Request

Email info@newmeridianuniversity.org with the subject Technical Support. Use your university email when available. If you cannot access it, use the personal email associated with your student record and explain the login problem. If you cannot send an email request, call 801-306-0660 and ask Student Support for help reporting the issue. Account recovery may require identity verification.

Include your full name, student ID if assigned, program, affected system, and course title or code when relevant. Describe what you attempted, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Copy the exact error and give the date, time, and time zone. Identify your device type, operating system, browser and version, and any troubleshooting already attempted. Say whether one course or several services are affected and whether an assignment, assessment, or meeting deadline is involved.

Attach a screenshot if it helps explain the problem, with private information removed. Include the relevant page address only if it contains no password-reset token or other confidential access information. An error message or small, redacted example is usually more appropriate than an entire assessment or confidential research dataset. Never send passwords, verification codes, recovery codes, or live recovery links.

  • Identify yourself, the system, and the affected course.
  • Describe the attempted action, exact error, and time.
  • Include device details, attempted fixes, and the deadline affected.
  • Attach only relevant screenshots or examples with private information removed.

Common Access Problems

Passwords and Authentication

Use the password-reset option on the official sign-in page when one is available, and check the email account associated with that service for the reset message. If the link fails, the account is locked, or an authentication method is unavailable, report the service and exact message. Explain if you changed your phone or lost access to the recovery email.

Keep passwords, verification codes, and recovery codes out of the request. Staff may need to verify your identity before restoring access.

Missing Courses or Materials

Check the account and term you are using and confirm your registration information. Report the course title or code and whether the entire course or one item is unavailable. A registration issue, administrative hold, or scheduled release may require action by the instructor or responsible office.

The help desk investigates technical access. It does not enroll students, remove administrative holds, or change course release or grading decisions.

Virtual Meetings and Other Tools

Identify the course, scheduled meeting time, platform, and error. Confirm that you opened the intended link and that the selected microphone, speaker, and camera are available to the meeting application. Notify your instructor if the issue prevents attendance.

For library access, a recording, or another integrated tool, name the resource and say whether the failure occurs before sign-in, after sign-in, or when opening a particular item.

Problems Affecting Deadlines or Assessments

Notify your instructor separately when a technical issue prevents attendance, assessment access, or assignment submission. Identify the activity, its deadline and time zone, when the difficulty began, and the support ticket number if available. Preserve your assignment file and permitted error evidence. Ask how to proceed if the normal submission method is unavailable.

A support email or an assignment attached to a help request does not automatically count as an accepted course submission. Only the responsible instructor or academic office can authorize an extension, alternative submission, or assessment arrangement. Continue work that remains possible while support is pending.

After access is restored, complete the required submission process and confirm that Classter or the assigned course tool shows the submission status or receipt. Follow the instructor’s additional instructions about attendance or assessment attempts.

  • Report the technical issue and notify the instructor separately.
  • Keep your work, permitted error evidence, and ticket number.
  • Request instructions for an extension or alternative submission.
  • Verify submission after access is restored.

Response Times and Follow-Up

The standard initial response to a new ticket is one business day. Most Classter issues are addressed within one to three business days, although the cause and complexity determine the time needed. An automated confirmation acknowledges receipt. Follow-up messages may request more information or explain the resolution. Submitting a request does not guarantee immediate or after-hours assistance.

Keep the confirmation and ticket number. Reply to the existing message when providing information or reporting a change so the request history stays together. If no confirmation arrives, check junk or spam folders and verify the address you used. If no staff response arrives after one business day, follow up in the same thread or call Student Support at 801-306-0660. Include the original request date, ticket number if received, current problem, and approaching deadline.

When notified that a ticket is closed, test the action that previously failed. If the issue remains, reply to the closure message with the ticket number, current error, and test result. Student Support can help obtain follow-up; the staff responsible for the system determine the technical correction. A resolution time cannot be guaranteed for every fault.

  • Keep the ticket number and reply in the same thread.
  • Provide requested details and report changes promptly.
  • Follow up after the standard response period if no staff response arrives.
  • Test the correction and report any remaining problem.

Account Security and Accessible Access

Protect Your Account

Keep credentials private and use the authentication protections offered by university systems. If an unexpected message asks for credentials, payment, software installation, or approval of a sign-in, verify it through an established university contact before acting. If you suspect someone has accessed your account, contact the help desk promptly and describe what occurred. Use the official sign-in page to change your password if you can do so safely. Do not forward passwords, verification codes, or live recovery links as evidence.

Report an Accessibility Barrier

Identify the page, file, or activity and explain the barrier, such as a control that cannot be used with a keyboard or a resource that cannot be read with assistive software. Include the software, device, and deadline affected. Technical support can investigate access problems.

For a formal accommodation, email info@newmeridianuniversity.org with the subject Accommodation Request and describe the adjustment needed. Do not attach medical records to a general support email. Student Support will explain the process and appropriate method for any supporting documentation.

  • Protect passwords, verification codes, and recovery links.
  • Report suspected account misuse through an established university contact.
  • Describe the accessibility barrier and the adjustment needed.

Support Scope and Contacts

The help desk assists with university login problems, authentication errors, password resets, access to course materials, and the basic operation of university-supported platforms. It also provides guidance on compatible browsers and configuration settings for those systems. If you are unsure whether a problem comes from your equipment or a university service, describe the symptoms so staff can identify the appropriate next step.

The help desk does not repair or troubleshoot personal hardware, personal software, or devices not issued by the university. It cannot remove viruses, repair an operating system, recover lost personal files, or directly manipulate your personal equipment. Contact the device manufacturer, software provider, internet provider, or a qualified repair service for those problems.

Questions about course concepts or statistical methods belong with your instructor or Tutoring and Academic Support. For writing questions, use the Writing Center. For finding research and developing searches, begin with the Student Library.

  • Request technical help with university systems and access.
  • Use academic support for questions about course content.
  • Arrange personal-device repairs or internet-service assistance with the appropriate provider.
