Welcome to theOffice of International
Students and Scholars

Studying with a university in another country is an important decision. At New Meridian University, the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) gives you a place to ask questions, understand your next steps, and connect with the people who can help.

Whether you are exploring a program, preparing your documents, or beginning your classes, our office helps you navigate the process. We coordinate guidance on international admission, document translation, enrollment, and access to university support so you can prepare for online study from your home country.

We also welcome inquiries from international researchers and educators interested in academic connections and potential collaboration with NMU.

International Student Tuition

NMU adjusts tuition by country of residence to make doctoral education more affordable for professionals worldwide. Rates reflect differences in local incomes and living costs, with reduced tuition for students in eligible countries. This approach recognizes that the investment required to earn a doctorate should be considered in relation to local earning power. Visit our Tuition and Fees page to find the tuition rate for your country.

Admissions

Applicants to NMU’s doctoral programs must hold a recognized master’s degree and demonstrate academic performance equivalent to at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. International qualifications are reviewed for degree equivalency and academic standing, including records from institutions that use percentages, degree classifications, or other grading systems. Applicants whose previous studies were taught in a language other than English must also provide evidence of English proficiency.

Transcripts

Submit copies of transcripts from every graduate institution you attended with your application. Official academic records are required after a provisional offer and before admission is confirmed. For qualifications earned outside the United States, follow the WES evaluation and ICAP instructions in the Admissions Documentation checklist. These records document your courses, grades, credits, and any degree awarded. Transcripts must retain the original course information and grades and be submitted in the language in which they were issued. NMU handles any required English translation. A degree certificate confirms an awarded qualification but does not replace the required transcripts.

English Proficiency

Instruction at NMU is conducted in English. Applicants who completed a degree taught in English can demonstrate proficiency through an official transcript or a letter from the awarding institution confirming the language of instruction. Other applicants must submit an English proficiency test result meeting one of the following minimums.

Accepted testMinimum score
IELTS Academic6.0 overall
Duolingo English Test95 overall
TOEFL iBT taken on or after January 21, 20263.5 overall
TOEFL iBT taken before January 21, 202661 overall

Test results must be from an examination taken within the two years preceding the application.

Student Support

NMU’s student support services are available remotely. Each student is assigned an academic advisor to plan coursework and monitor progress toward graduation. Virtual tutoring covers course content, statistics, and research methods. The writing center provides feedback on organization, APA formatting, and citations. Students can access digital library materials and schedule research consultations for assistance finding scholarly sources. Technical support addresses login problems, password resets, and access to online course materials.

Online Study and U.S. Visas

NMU’s programs are completed entirely online and do not require travel to the United States. NMU does not sponsor F-1 student or J-1 exchange visitor visas and does not issue Forms I-20 or DS-2019. Admission to NMU does not grant U.S. immigration status or permission to enter, reside, or work in the United States.
