The Application and Admissions Process
Learn how to apply, meet admission requirements, and navigate each step of the application process for our flexible, fully online doctoral programs designed for working professionals.
Step 1
Complete the online application and upload clear copies of your graduate transcripts, degree documents, and identification. Include a PDF of English proficiency evidence if applicable. NMU reviews these copies before requesting official academic records. Review the Admissions Document Checklist before you apply.
Step 2
The admissions team reviews your application to confirm that all required materials are included and that you meet the minimum eligibility requirements. If clarification or additional documents are needed, you may be contacted by the admissions office. Applications that meet the requirements move forward to faculty evaluation.
Step 3
Program faculty review your academic preparation, professional experience, and research interests. During this stage, faculty assess whether your background and goals align with the doctoral program. The review focuses on determining whether the program is a strong academic fit for you.
Step4
Following review, you receive an admissions decision. If NMU makes a provisional offer, you will receive instructions for official academic records. Qualifications earned outside the United States require a WES credential evaluation with ICAP. For U.S. qualifications, transcripts must come directly from the issuing institution or its authorized transcript delivery service. Final admission depends on verification of your academic qualifications.
