Request
Student Support

Tell us what is getting in the way, what you need to accomplish, and when you need help. Student Support can answer a question, arrange assistance, or connect you with the office responsible for the next step.

Following up on an existing request?

Not sure who
to contact?

Begin with Student Support. You do not need to identify the right office or have every supporting document before asking for help. If several services are involved, describe the related needs in one message so the office can coordinate them.

Choose a Support Topic

For a new request, choose the topic that best describes your need. The guidance below provides an email subject and the details most useful for that service. If you are unsure, use Student Support Inquiry. For an existing request, reply to the original message thread and keep its subject and reference number.

Choosing a topic prepares the subject line. No request is sent from this page.

Applicants, enrolled students, returning students, and former students may ask questions or request a referral. Orientation serves admitted students; writing, tutoring, library, and ongoing academic support serve enrolled students. Prospective students may ask about services and accessibility before applying.

Prepare Your Request

Start with your name, student identification number if assigned, program and current status, and an email address you can access. Describe the question in your own words. Identify the course, activity, system, or service involved; explain when the difficulty began and the answer or action you are seeking. Include what you have already tried and any previous response or request number.

If a deadline is approaching, give the exact date, time, and time zone. Explain what will happen if the issue remains unresolved and any temporary assistance you need. For a meeting, suggest two or three dates and times with your time zone. Tell the office if you need an accessible communication method or help explaining the request.

  • Identify yourself, the issue, and the action needed.
  • Include previous contacts, steps attempted, and the next deadline.
  • Provide meeting availability and communication needs when relevant.

Include Relevant Material

Assignment instructions, a university notice, or a redacted error screenshot may help explain the issue. Remove unrelated private information from copies, retain the originals, and explain any redactions. You may contact the office before all supporting material is available; identify what is still missing.

Send Your Request or Call

Email info@newmeridianuniversity.org using the relevant subject. Use your university email when possible. If you cannot access it, use the personal email associated with your application or student record and explain the access problem. A form is not required.

  1. Choose a subject and write the request, including your contact information and deadline.
  2. Check any attachments for unrelated private or sensitive information.
  3. Send the email from your email account. Keep the sent message and any acknowledgment or reference number.
  4. Confirm the coordinating contact, next action, and expected update date in the response.

If email is unavailable or you prefer to discuss the request, call 801-306-0660 and ask for the Office of Student Support Services. Explain the issue and confirm the next step before ending the conversation. You may ask for an accessible alternative or a written follow-up. A meeting request is not a confirmed appointment; check the date, time zone, and access instructions when it is arranged.

Responses and Referrals

The reply identifies your coordinating contact, any information still needed, and the next step. If the request has several parts, Student Support explains who will address each one. Response periods depend on the service or applicable policy. For an ordinary inquiry without a published response period, ask when to expect the next update.

When another office must act, the referral identifies the receiving office or named official, the reason, and what you need to do. Student Support explains whether staff will transfer the inquiry or whether you must make a separate formal submission. It shares relevant information and continues coordinating until the receiving office has confirmed responsibility for the next action.

If the receiving office says it cannot handle the issue, return that response to your coordinating contact and ask for clarification. An acknowledgment or forwarded message does not mean the problem has been resolved. A referral also does not itself change enrollment, an amount due, or an academic deadline.

  • Keep the receiving contact’s details and submission instructions.
  • Confirm who acts next and when an update is expected.
  • Return a declined or unresolved referral to Student Support.

Questions for Other Offices

Use an established contact when you already have one. Your instructor handles course instructions, feedback, grades, and extension decisions. Your academic advisor or Academic Affairs handles course sequence and degree requirements. The registrar handles registration, enrollment records, transcripts, and holds; removing a hold may also require action by the office that imposed it. Student Financial Services handles charges, payments, and refunds, while Student Admissions handles applications and admission decisions. If contact details are missing, ask Student Support to connect you with a named person.

Follow-Up and Approaching Deadlines

Reply in the existing message thread with the original request date, reference number if assigned, last response, and the question still unanswered. If the stated response period or agreed update date has passed, ask for the current status, the action pending, and the next expected date. Check spam and the address used if no acknowledgment arrived; call when confirmation is missing or a time-sensitive issue remains unanswered.

After a correction, check the outcome. Test the affected function for a technology issue, or review the official confirmation for a record or enrollment action. If the problem persists, explain what you checked and what remains wrong. Closing routine support correspondence does not cancel a separate formal request or appeal.

  • Keep the original thread and reference number.
  • Specify the unresolved point and approaching deadline.
  • Check the result and report any remaining problem.

When Coursework Is Immediately Affected

State the deadline and immediate consequence when first requesting help. If a technical problem affects coursework in Classter, NMU’s learning management system, notify the instructor separately while reporting the problem through Technical Support. Ask the responsible official about an interim arrangement and obtain written confirmation. An urgent message does not automatically authorize an extension or alternative submission.

Formal Requests and Complaints

An ordinary request for information does not itself apply for leave, withdraw from a course, challenge a grade, or file an appeal. Ask for the governing procedure, receiving official, required information, and filing deadline. If you intend to appeal, clearly identify the decision, state that you are requesting review, explain the grounds, and specify the change sought.

A clearly expressed complaint or appeal sent to the wrong NMU office must be forwarded promptly, preserving its original receipt date and applicable deadlines. Ask for confirmation of the receiving official and original receipt date, and complete any additional requirements of the governing procedure. This protection does not turn a general question about appeal options into an appeal. A support appointment or clarification request does not extend a filing deadline.

Ethical Concerns and Sensitive Complaints

For discrimination, harassment, retaliation, privacy violations, or other ethical concerns, use the Office of Ethical Compliance reporting process. Student Support can identify the designated reporting contact. You do not need to confront the person involved or provide complete proof to raise a concern.

If the concern personally implicates the President, ask Student Support for the independent external reviewer’s direct contact before providing sensitive details. Do not route the substantive concern through the implicated official. People with a relevant conflict must not investigate, decide, or hear the appeal. NMU prohibits retaliation for good-faith questions, support requests, and use of the reporting process.

Privacy, Assistance, and Contact

The university may verify your identity before discussing private records or changing account access. Ask for an approved alternative if the usual method is inaccessible. You may have another person help explain your request, but the university must confirm that person’s authority and the scope of information you authorize it to share. A family relationship or payment of tuition does not automatically provide access to your records.

Information shared for a referral is limited to what the receiving official needs for the assigned responsibility. Absolute confidentiality cannot be promised; information indicating prohibited conduct may need to be forwarded under university policy.
