Human Resources / Employment
Whether you already work with New Meridian University or are exploring a future role, find guidance on appointments, remote work, professional responsibilities, and support from Human Resources.
Faculty, staff, administrators, and independent contractors contribute to NMU’s online academic programs and university operations. Our mission for online graduate education connects this work with academic rigor, ethical leadership, and professional practice.
Faculty responsibilities may include instruction, advising, assessment, curriculum development, and dissertation supervision. Staff and administrators support students, academic programs, technology, and institutional operations. Each role has defined responsibilities and a designated reporting or contract contact.
Academic work spans the schools of Business Administration, Technology, Public Administration, and Education. These pages provide context for current assignments and for people considering where their expertise might contribute.
NMU uses employee appointments and independent contractor agreements. HR reviews the actual responsibilities and working relationship to determine the appropriate classification. Written terms identify duties, workload, reporting arrangements, approved location, duration, compensation, and payment arrangements.
Employee leave and benefits depend on eligibility and applicable terms. Contractor services, payment, and expense arrangements follow the services agreement and applicable requirements. Contact HR if you need a copy of your agreement or clarification about your appointment.
Academic qualifications are reviewed for each assignment. Master’s-level teaching requires an appropriate doctoral or terminal degree and subject expertise. Doctoral teaching requires an earned doctorate in a related field and documented expertise. Dissertation chairs and committee members require a relevant earned doctorate and appropriate subject and research preparation.
Academic leadership approves teaching and supervision assignments. Current personnel should raise proposed changes in duties, workload, credentials, or appointment terms with their designated supervisor or contract contact and HR.
NMU’s workforce is fully distributed. Your appointment or services agreement identifies an approved work location, time zone, and availability or service commitments. Obtain documented HR approval before working from a different state, province, or country, including temporary location changes.
For faculty, workload includes preparation, assessment, student communication, advising, and supervision. Applicable policies and assignment terms establish feedback timelines, availability, and coverage arrangements.
Equipment, connectivity, approved systems, technical contacts, and expense responsibilities are documented for your role. If a disruption affects your work, contact the designated supervisor or contract contact so that support and coverage can be coordinated.
New personnel receive preparation for their responsibilities before dependent work begins. Orientation covers applicable policies, reporting contacts, systems access, and role-specific procedures. Faculty preparation also addresses instruction, assessment, student communication, accessibility, and referrals to student support.
Dissertation chairs and committee members receive preparation in research milestones, review responsibilities, documentation, and research ethics. The Institutional Review Board’s research guidance explains the review process relevant to research involving human participants.
Support continues as responsibilities and policies change. HR can help you obtain current policies, update personnel information, request records or employment verification, and identify the appropriate contact for an appointment-related question. Supervisors and academic leadership address role-specific expectations, performance, and development.
If you are exploring employment or contracted services, consider how your qualifications and experience connect with the work you would like to undertake. Faculty interests may include course instruction, advising, curriculum development, or dissertation supervision.
Selection follows the criteria established for an authorized role. Review may include credentials, relevant experience, interviews, work samples, and references. Applicants may request an accommodation through HR. Required written terms must be accepted before work begins.
The Jobs page is coming soon and will provide published position announcements and application instructions. To make a general inquiry, email HR with your areas of expertise, relevant experience, interests, and proposed work location. You may include a current CV. Formal applications follow the instructions established for a particular role.
