Prepare your application with the right documents, then complete official verification after a provisional offer.
This checklist applies to U.S. and international applicants. Copies are accepted for the initial review; official academic records follow a provisional offer. Review the Admission Eligibility Requirements before preparing your documents.
WITH YOUR APPLICATION
Submit the following documents with your online application.
Complete NMU’s online application form and provide the document copies listed below. Your application and supporting records form the basis of the initial admissions review.
Provide photocopies or scans of transcripts from every graduate institution you attended. Include all pages showing courses, grades, credits, and any degree awarded. Keep the original course information and grades as issued.
Provide photocopies or scans of your graduate degree certificates or diplomas, including the qualifying master’s degree. Include both your transcript and degree document; the degree certificate confirms the qualification awarded.
Provide a clear photocopy or scan of your identification. Include the entire document and make sure its details can be read.
Provide a PDF of an accepted English proficiency test result or evidence that your previous degree was taught in English. Evidence of English-medium instruction may be an official transcript or a letter from the awarding institution confirming the language of instruction. Review the English Language Requirements.
Include every page and keep names, course titles, grades, and dates legible. NMU handles any required English translation.
AFTER A PROVISIONAL OFFER
Your provisional offer will explain how to complete official verification. The delivery process depends on where your academic qualifications were earned.
WES evaluation and verified transcripts
NMU requires a World Education Services (WES) credential evaluation with the International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP).
WES authenticates your academic records, assesses their equivalence to U.S. qualifications, and sends NMU the evaluation report and verified transcripts.
Follow the WES ordering and delivery instructions provided with your provisional offer.
Direct official transcript delivery
Arrange for the issuing institution or its authorized transcript delivery service to send your official transcripts directly to NMU. Follow the delivery instructions provided with your provisional offer.
NMU makes a final admission decision after reviewing your verified academic records. Final admission depends on confirmation of the qualifications presented in your application.
